Food: A balanced mixture of live protein and vegetables along with a cuttlebone and pellets for calcium and vitamins.

Painted turtles <6 months:
- 50% protein / 50% vegetables
- protein food or pellets daily
- vegetable food daily
Painted turtles between 6-12 months:
- 50% protein / 50% vegetables
- protein food or pellets every other day
- vegetable food daily
Painted turtles >1 year:
- 25% protein / 75% vegetables
- protein food or pellets 2-3x/week
- vegetable food daily

Water: Filtered tap water REFILLED DAILY.

Size: MIN 3x2x2ft PER ADULT TURTLE.

Bedding: Dust-free, non-dyed sand or clay substrate. Rocks can be used, but all rocks must be larger than turtle's head to prevent ingestion.

Decor: Rocks or logs for basking, Hides, caves, and some live plants for tank enrichment.

Note: barred top for ventilation. Solid glass aquarium. Turtles need a dry area for basking. Dry area should be able to fit 1 turtle comfortably without touching water.

Lighting: Painted Turtles need a UVI of 3.0-4.0 in their basking area, measured by Solar meter 6.5. Light source distance from basking area (highest point in cage) must be measured by the Solar meter.

Temp & Humidity:
- Basking surface temperature: 95-104°F (35-40°C)
- Water temperature (juveniles): 78-80°F (25-27°C)
- Water temperature (subadults/adults): 70-76°F (21-24°C)

Cleaning: Water filtration system must be able to handle 2x the amount of
water in the tank (ex: a 200g filter for a 100g tank). replace 30% of water in
tank every 1-2 weeks. syphon and pump systems are recommended. Filter
must also be cleaned monthly.
